- Field Report November, 08
CEO Joan Roose in India
- Out and About
On a recent train journey I met Eliazer T. Rose, a director of an organisation working with lepers, polio victims and HIV women and children. He shared his wisdom from many years experience in the field and invited me to visit his work in the district next to ours. Eliazer’s words have already had a big impact on our work, and will continue to do so. His generosity even extended to inviting our 46 Mastiput kids to stay at one of his children’s homes in the large town of Vishakapatnum so they could visit the zoo and the beach for the first time ever. So we all travelled for several hours by bus and train to Vishakapatnum for a couple of fun-filled days including time spent playing cricket, football, games, drawing, painting with the host children. Our home parents spent time with the manager there, observing, learning and exchanging ideas. It was a wonderful few days that we’ll never forget.
- Rejoice Mastiput
Rejoice Care Centre is starting to be acknowledged within the surrounding community, with local government officials recently offering to help us, and the police calling a couple of times to make sure we were all safe during the recent disturbances.
Our newly appointed Mali’s (farmer) name is Jogesh. He and his wife, both orphans, come from the village of Tunkul, where we recently sank a bore well. They are now living on our land with their children. Jogesh is an excellent worker, farmer and gardener who has transformed our vegetable garden in just a few weeks. Jogesh and his family have fitted in very well with our family. Their oldest boy goes to school with the rest of our kids, while their three year old happily plays with the little ones, and all our girls just love their three month old baby boy!
- Building Progress
Now the wet season is well and truly over, work has recommenced on the boundary wall and multipurpose hall, which are scheduled to be finished before the next wet begins.
- Well Report
We’ve employed three new Regional Development Officers to work in our well areas training the villagers in health and sanitation; with another due to start late December. Each of the three have been equipped with bikes, lamps and hygiene teaching aids. In addition to this role, two of them have agreed to be trained as Bore Well Masons so that we can expand our work in the coming years.
- Rejoice Kakinada
There are now thirteen children and one widow at Rejoice Kakinada in need of sponsorship. Here are some of their stories.
Katheti Syresh Kumar is six years old and was abandoned by his father, who eloped with a woman from another village. His mother works on a farm and is unable to care for him.
Mamidi Kiran Kishore is a seven year old whose mother works as a sweeper to support her aged parents. His father abandoned the family.
Pallikala Suryakantham is 65 years old and has three sons who, after their father’s death, threw her out of the house with no means of support. Rejoice has provided her with a home, food and shelter.
If you wish to sponsor one of these children or Pallikala please complete the child sponsorship form, enclose in an envelope with your payment details and post to PO Box 680 Glen Waverley Australia 3150.
- Rejoice 09 Calendar Featuring Drawings by Sponsored Children
Thanks to the support of our sponsors, children at Rejoice have something to celebrate: improved health, knowledge and quality of life.
As part of this joyous season we have produced a 2009 calendar featuring some of the children’s drawings and paintings.
All proceeds from the calendars will help establish the Rejoice Children’s Library. There are two sizes to choose from: Rejoice 09 Wall Calendar (210mm x 297mm) $20 each (plus postage) or Rejoice 09 Desk Calendar $15 each (plus postage).
