- Field Report Oct 07
Travelling during the wet season is extra challenging - we don't know when a road will be washed away or when we’ll get drenched in a downpour. It really highlights the plight of the homeless and the people that live in the slums and villages because in the wet season it is not only the rain but the winds and cyclonic activity that makes life even harder.
We were travelling in an area where we were told there was an outbreak of dysentery. We discovered the day after we left in fact, that the whole district had been suffering from an outbreak of cholera. However the villages where we have recently sunk bore wells didn’t experience the cholera outbreak. We were extremely joyful for these people but terribly saddened that many died and there is still a cholera problem. This is why clean water and hygiene education is so vital.
We have purchased a second bore well rig and are now able to sink twice as many bore wells. In the wet season production is prohibited by the severe weather conditions and flooding. Our tenth well is completed and eleventh in progress. By providing a fresh water well we help make a difference to the lives of the people who live there.
In one of the villages we visited, we gave out the children’s jumpers that were knitted by many of our supporters. Thank you to those who have done the knitting.
Through the generosity of your sponsorship and support, Jacob’s Well is making a difference.
- Seniors Living With Purpose
You are never too old to live a life of significance. A group of senior citizens known as the VIPs seek to foster genuine care for each other and an enthusiastic serving of their generation. As part of their purpose driven life they decided to support Jacob’s Well by raising $1500 to sponsor the sinking of a bore well. A good proportion of the VIPs who’s average age is 75, are living on the pension and have given out of their need, not out of any excess. They serve as a fine example to all of us and for generations to come. Thank you to Barry Clark and all the VIPs for their tremendous support.
- Justice And Hope Exhibition
Jenn Dobson is passionate about photography and has dedicated herself to a life of significance. Her visual documentation of the children throughout India and South East Asia captures moments in time that draw the viewer into another realm. Each photograph embraces the human spirit and paints a thousand words.
Profits from the sale of photographs in the exhibition go to Jacob’s Well. Embrace the vision and enter the visual journey. Works will be on display from 6th February to 6th May 2008 in the Atrium Gallery on Level 35 at Sofitel Melbourne. For more information about the exhibition contact vicki@jacobswell.org.au or Vicki on 0417 037 234.
- I Wish
'I wish that every child in the world could grow up with the benefits and privileges we have in Australia.' Joan Roose.
There is so much work that can be done, helping and educating children so they have an opportunity for further education and a career. Encouraging parents not to send their children out to work at 8 years of age, but to send them to school instead is another challenge.
Here are the stories of two boys now in Rejoice Children's Home who are in desperate need of sponsorship. Both Manches Khora aged 7 and Rajesh Tandi aged 11 are in good health thanks and great spirits thanks to the food, care, protection and education provided at Rejoice Children's Home. Both of them are doing well in mathematics at school. Manches loves playing a 'board game' called Carom and Rajesh's favourite game is cricket. These are only two of dozens of children that need sponsoring. If you or anyone you know can sponsor a child for just $30 per month please contact Joan on 61 3 9803 6115 or email joan@jacobswell.org.au and help us break the poverty cycle.

Funds will help us build among other things the multipurpose community hall and boundary wall around our land to protect the children, gardens and property. To assist in our fundraising we will be conducting a cultural raffle with some interesting prizes. You have to be in it to win it!
