Field Report 8 June 06
There are 1000 orphans in the Koraput district alone, not to mention the thousands of desperately needy families that need our moral, physical & financial help. We can take another 30 this year if we have sponsors.
We opened the first stage of the Rejoice Children's Home. The children move into their new home in the next week or so, ready to start the new school year on June 15th. They have done amazingly well in the last 11 months and are a real credit to the home parents, Majhi and Prenati and to the teacher Shakar and his wife also Prenati.
We visited a village where a bore well is being sunk, they were boring through rock the day we were there, but the rock showed evidence of water being present so they will by now have hit water, be capping the bore well and setting the pump.
Then on to the next village to start again, not just sinking a well but creating a relationship, of trust and respect so that when we return to check that the bore well is operating properly, we can also share how and why we're doing the work. There are 18 villages just in this area that have no water supply.
We also left enough money to purchase a sewing machine, equipment and materials to commence teaching tailoring to townspeople and villagers. We need to purchase another 5 machines over the next few weeks to get the school off the ground. Those who can afford to pay for lessons will, those who can't wont have to. The paying students will cover the cost of rent.
Thank you for all your support, we are making a difference.
